Here are a few things we do at West Point to raise money for our club. First let me say your tax dollars are not paying for our team.
The amount of money in your club can translate into increased membership. Some of this goes without saying but keeping people in the club can be as important as recruiting new members.
We had T-shirts made with our team logo and sell them to both club members and non-members. We also bring them to other events and try to sell some there as well.
A big area to draw money is Alumni. This will be initially harder for new clubs, but for clubs that have been around a while I recommend contacting old players. Our club began in the 1970s so our list of Alumni is long. Find graduates who played on the team and seek their support for your club. I as I wrote in the membership link, I write an article for the local paper after each event. I package these articles and a little more information into a club newsletter. I built an alumni database with the help of our Alumni Association and send the newsletter periodically to keep people informed about the club. Hopefully some of these people are working and can give back to the club. Our funding has increased exponentially since I began doing this.
I'm not sure if this is an option at your school, but we also work concession stands at other sporting events that bring in money for the team.
Hope this helps. Ken
If you send me a note, I can send you an example of our newsletter, the forum won't let me upload a .pdf file.
